Agencies Find Another Questionable COVID-19 Claim

FDA and FTC flag website promoting essential oil as a treatment.

Government agencies have flagged another essential oil seller for claims related to the coronavirus.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reviewed organic-beauty-recipes.com on May 22, 2020, and June 3, 2020, respectively, and observed claims representing or implying that products it was promoting as a Amazon affliate can mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people.  Based on the review, these claims cause the Amazon associate product purchased through a link on your website to be an unapproved new drug. Furthermore, this product is a misbranded drug under section 502 of the FD&C Act, 21 U.S.C. § 352, stated the letter. The agencies cited a claim about Noble laurel as a “strong immunostimulant, i.e., it helps boost immunity.” FDA and FTA cound that the company noted “It has potent antiviral properties and is a powerful antibiotic, particularly for RNA viruses, like the coronavirus responsible for acute respiratory syndromes. Plus it’s an effective analgesic (pain killer) as well.”
