HBA 2003 announced that Albert M. Kligman, MD, Ph.D, will receive the new award entitled, “Lifetime achievement award: advancement of beauty through science” at the second annual Industry Awards Dinner on Sept. 30 in New York, on the opening night of HBA and PCITX.The 11th Annual HBA (Health & Beauty America) and PCITX (Personal Care Ingredients & Technology Expo) will take place Sept. 30-Oct. 2, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.Dr. Kligman, emeritus professor of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, is being recognized for his vast contributions to the cosmetic industry and new product development. Over the years, his work and research has made a significant impact on the practice of dermatology, skin care as well as influenced anti-aging advancements, according to show organizers.Dr. Kligman is the also the director of the Aging Skin Clinic at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and was responsible for its inception in the late 1978. He invented Retin-A for acne in 1978 and for photoaging 10 years later.The Industry Awards Dinner during HBA 2003 will also present the following awards: the fourth annual Package Design award; New Product R&D Technical award; the Lifetime Achievement in Product Development award and the Packaging Executive of the Year award.The 11th Annual HBA tradeshow and conference is the largest industry specific event in North America for the cosmetic, fragrance, and personal care industry. PCITX is a new sector of HBA, and in cooperative venture with the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA), will focus on personal care product development. A keynote address by Susan E. Arnold, president of global personal beauty and global feminine care for The Procter & Gamble Co., will open both events on Sept. 30.
