Alberto-Culver Co. announced that profit rose 4% in its fiscal third quarter on 9% sales growth. For the three months ended June 30, the company earned $53.4 million, up from $51.5 million a year ago. Excluding a charge related to changes in its share structure, Alberto-Culver would have earned $55.8 million. Revenue grew 9% to $898.9 million from $823.2 million, led by Tresemme, Alberto V05 and St. Ives products, the company said. Its Sally Beauty Supply business also posted strong results, Alberto-Culver said. This sales growth was partly offset by higher costs for raw materials and fuel, the company said. In addition, the Beauty Systems Group unit posted lower profit.
