Alberto-Culver Company President and Chief Executive Officer Howard B. Bernick said that he expected the company’s fourth quarter, which closed September 30, to produce double-digit sales and earnings growth rates, well in line with analysts’ expectations. Mr. Bernick, who made his remarks at a London investment conference, said that strong sales performances by both the company’s packaged goods units and its Sally Beauty Company would enable the company to overcome the negative impact of weak overseas currencies. The fiscal 2000 year marks the company’s ninth consecutive record sales and record earnings year. The company plans to report final fiscal year 2000 fourth quarter and full year results on Thursday, October 26.

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2001, Mr. Bernick said that the company was striving to again achieve double-digit sales and earnings growth rates, but cautioned that weak overseas currencies would somewhat temper the company’s U.S. dollar reported growth rates.
