Alberto-Culver to Acquire West Coast Beauty Supply

The Alberto-Culver Company’s Beauty Systems Group (BSG) has reached an agreement in principal to acquire West Coast Beauty Supply Co., a major full service professional beauty products distributor based in Benicia, CA.

Executives said West Coast Beauty Supply would take the company into 80% of the U.S. and add approximately $170 million to annual sales. The supply company has more than 225 professional distributor sales consultants and 122 stores in fourteen western states including California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona. The acquisition will raise BSG’s totals to over 1,225 sales consultants and 650 stores in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Howard B. Bernick, Alberto-Culver president and chief executive officer said that “the addition of West Coast Beauty Supply has been a long-term objective for our company which moves us a significant step closer towards the goal of making the Beauty Systems Group a ‘national’ full service distributor.”

The proposed transaction will not include purchasing West Coast Beauty Supply’s Cricket business, a professional marketer of brushes and salon sundries that will continue to be owned and run by West Coast’s owner Wayne Clark.
