US Patent No. 9,901,525 B2; Amorepacific Corporation, Seoul, has patented a method for whitening the skin. It comprises a step for applying to the skin a cosmetic composition containing, as a sole skin whitening effective ingredient, 3β, 5α-dihydroxy-6β-methoxy-(22E, 24R)-ergosta-7, 22-diene or 3β,5α,9α-trihydroxy-(22E, 24R)-ergosta-7, 22-diene-6-one, and a cosmetically acceptable medium or base. The concentration of the skin whitening effective ingredient is greater than 1μm based on the total weight of the cosmetic composition.
