Iris ISO targets three areas of the skin.
May 20, 2015

Iris ISO, a new anti-aging active ingredient from Silab, is rich in isoflavones from iris (Iris florentina) to help fight the visible signs of aging. Through its targeted action on three compartments of the skin, Iris ISO:
• prevents atrophy of the epidermis by limiting inflammation and stimulating cell renewal;
• prevents attenuation of the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) by boosting the synthesis of its components and improving its organization; and
• reduces alterations of the dermal matrix by maintaining the activity of fibroblasts and decreasing glycation.
With Iris ISO, the barrier function is strengthened, skin tone is preserved and wrinkles fade, according to Silab. Therefore, the ingredient is said to provide a comprehensive solution for mature skin and can be incorporated in all anti-aging products. To study the material's impact on the epidermis, at 0.25%, Iris ISO significantly increases the expression of transglutaminase 1 by 246%, of kallikrein 7 by 293% and of kallikrein 5 by 149%. Iris ISO therefore stimulates renewal of the stratum corneum and improves cohesion of the skin, according to Silab. To study the impact of the material on the skin barrier, Iris ISO was tested on a panel of healthy volunteers, mean age 55 ± 9 years, Iris ISO formulated at 3% significantly reduces transepidermal water loss by 22% after repeated aggression with sodium lauryl sulfate, after 7 days of twice daily applications. This barrier effect persists after 14 days of twice daily applications when the water loss decreases by 31%, according to Silab. To study the effect of Iris ISO on the dermal matrix, a formula with 0.25% active was tested on glycated fibroblasts. Iris ISO significantly boosts the formation of the collagen I network by 16%. In a 28-day anti-wrinkle effect study, Iris ISO formulated at 3% improved skin relief of the crow’s feet in healthy volunteers, mean age 51 ± 2 years. This effect persists after 56 days of treatment. Moreover, Iris ISO attenuates wrinkles by the reduction of the negative volume parameter after 28 and 56 days of applications, respectively by 18.5% and by 21.2%, according to Silab. Finally, 95% of the volunteers reported that their lines and wrinkles are attenuated on the side treated with Iris ISO and 89% agreed Iris ISO is an anti-wrinkle product through the subjective evaluation quantifying the sensations felt by the volunteers after 56 days of twice daily use.
