Acquisition is on track and synergies abound in Milan.

BASF’s acquisition of Cognis continues apace, and both suppliers, along with Laboratoires Sérobiologiques, the active ingredients business of Cognis, demonstrated the synergies that will benefit cosmetic chemists when the acquisition is completed later this year. For example, the latest addition to the Cognis portfolio is Cetiol RLF, a light, environmentally sound emollient that has been dermatologically tested on very sensitive skin. Cetiol RLF, billed as a silicone alternative, is made from 100% natural, renewable feedstock. All skin is sensitive to UV, and BASF offers one of the most comprehensive sun care portfolios in the industry. The BASF lineup includes UVB filters (Uvinul T150, Uvinul MC80 and Uvinul N539T), a UVA filter (Uvinul A Plus Granular) and two broad-spectrum UV filters (Tinosorb M and Tinosorb S). To help formulators get the most out of these materials, BASF has developed a Sunscreen Simulator, www.basf.com/?utm_source=HAP&utm_medium=ContentMarketing&utm_campaign=HAP/sunscreen-simulator, which enables chemists to see how a UV filter combination is likely to perform in terms of Sun Protection Factor and the various UVA metrics and criteria used in different countries and regions. Meanwhile, Laboratoires Sérobiologiques has introduced Sanicapyl (INCI: Sodium lauroyl lactylate (and) butylene glycol (and) Piper negrum fruit extract (and) Inga alba bark extract), an active material that helps to rebalance the scalp to overcome dandruff conditions while beautifying the hair. Clinical studies highlighted its ability to reduce itching sensations and to regulate the production of sebum. Sanicapyl also had significant antimicrobial properties on Malassezia furfur and Malassezia globosa. It is suitable for all hair types and can be used in shampoos, conditioners and lotions.
