CHINA: China’s booming beauty industry could create a considerable number of jobs if developed properly, providing a potential solution to the country’s unemployment problem, said Zhang Xiaomei, member of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). She estimated that the industry could create one million new jobs annually if relevant government departments made it easier to start their beauty businesses and provided better training. China currently has nearly 1.6 million beauty parlors, employing 9.4 million people, and reporting business incomes of approximately $21.5 billion. The annual growth rate is 15%.
