BioScreen Hosts Chinese FDA Officials

BioScreen Testing Services recently hosted 25 Chinese Food and Drug Administration Officials from Chongqing City, China.

Over a three-week period, the officials traveled throughout the U.S. to gain a better understanding of the current practices of food and drug safety as China improves its regulatory oversight and standards.

During the visit on Oct. 29, BioScreen conducted a presentation on how the U.S. FDA inspects and regulates laboratories and industries in the U.S. and provided a comprehensive tour of the BioScreen laboratories.

In addition to educating the officials on U.S. general practices, BioScreen management also learned a great deal regarding the regulation of drugs and cosmetics in China and gained invaluable insight into China’s current and future regulatory goals, according to the company.

BioScreen was among the many organizations that the Chinese officials visited, and was the only privately held contract laboratory. Other stops included Pfizer in New Jersey, the California Food and Drug branch in Berkeley, CA, and the FDA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Officials included Mr. Zhang Juan, division chief of the Chongqing Food and Drug Administration, Yang Weidong, director general, and Fu Jiajun, deputy director general.

BioScreen Testing Services, Inc. is a full service analytical chemistry, microbiology and human clinical testing laboratory.

Zotos Honored by March Of Dimes, Salvation Army
The Joico/ISO/Zotos manufacturing team in Geneva, NY—which produces hair care products using eco-conscious methods, including developing a wind turbine program to power the entire plant and increasing bottle molding to 70% PCR and 30% bio-resin material—was recently named the largest corporate sponsor of the March of Dimes in the New York State Finger Lakes/Genessee Valley community.

The company was also honored for adopting more than 100 families and raising $2,000 for the Salvation Army.

To support the March of Dimes, the Zotos/Joico/ISO team participated in a recent March for Babies benefit, and raised more than $17,000. Those efforts, along with ongoing fundraising activities like bake sales, raffles and children’s carnivals, made it the top team in the event. The distinction earned the team a display in Time Square in New York as Volunteer Organization of the Year.

“We would like to recognize our employees for their efforts and generosity towards the achievement of this goal in such a difficult economic climate,” said Anthony Perdigao, vice president of plant operations. “The mission of the March of Dimes— funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected—is important to us here at Zotos.”

Perdigao also recently accepted an award plaque from the Salvation Army for providing Christmas gifts to more than 100 families and raising money throughout the year.

The company, a subsidiary of Shiseido, is investing in wind power as part of a sustainability initiative aimed at powering its plant with 100% renewable energy by the end of 2011.
