Blyth Inc. announced that it expects first quarter earnings to be up slightly from a year earlier, helped by strong sales from its PartyLite home-show division. The company said first quarter earnings should range from $.34-.36 a share, up from $.33 a share a year earlier. Blyth executives said first quarter results will be restrained by an early Easter and by recently-acquired giftware rand Midwest of Cannon Falls, which typically reports a first-quarter loss. Easter product sales were logged in the fourth quarter ended Jan. 31 due to the early timing of the holiday this year.

For the full fiscal year 2003, the company said it expects earnings to rise to $1.88 a share, up 30% from $1.44 a share in fiscal 2002.
