Boots Buys Clearasil

Procter & Gamble has sold its Clearasil brand to Boots Healthcare International (BHI). Two of Boot’s wholly owned subsidiaries, Boots Healthcare USA, Inc. and Hermal Kurt Herrmann GmbH & Co, have agreed to purchase Clearasil from P&G at a price of $340 million. The sale is subject to regulatory approval.

“Clearasil is a profitable business, but we must make tough choices onwhere to focus our resources,” said Susan Arnold, president of P&G’s globalpersonal beauty care business. “We chose not to focus on teen acne skin care inorder to focus on growing our core mega brands like Olay.” BHI is the division of The Boots Company PLC which develops and marketsover the counter (OTC) medicines. BHI is the fastest growing OTC medicines company in Europe.
