Skincare brand CeraVe has set the record straight that Michael Cera is not affiliated with the brand after the “Superbad” actor was spotted handing out bottles of CeraVe lotion to passersby on the streets of Manhattan.

Sports Illustrated model Haley Kalil, who is CeraVe brand partner, purportedly saw the actor signing bottles of the brand’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion at a New York pharmacy where she was going to film content, according to the New York Post.

Cera said on a recent installment of the “Really Good Podcast” that he “has some skin in the game” with CeraVe.

CeraVe, however, appears to disagree.

In a post on Instagram captioned “setting the record straight,” CeraVe emphasized its longtime work with dermatologists as its key selling point, not the actor’s unofficial endorsement.

“CeraVe is, and always has been, developed with dermatologists,” wrote the brand. “We reiterate this as we’ve heard rumors surrounding Michael Cera’s involvement here at CeraVe, and we deny such claims. We are flattered to share Mr. Cera’s passion for moisturizer, and wish him well.”
