Chattem, Inc. announced today clarification regarding a statement that appeared in The Wall Street Journal on December 12, 2000 that Chattem was not changing its estimate of per share earnings for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000. In its September 25, 2000 press release, Chattem estimated earnings per share of $.18-.22 for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000. The September 2000 earnings estimate did not give effect to the impact of $18 to $20 million of special charges announced December 11, 2000 that the Company intends to take in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000.Chattem intends to announce its fourth quarter 2000 and fiscal 2000 results on or about January 25, 2001.
