Pacific Trade International, the integrated global marketer of candles, home fragrance, and home décor products and the company behind the Chesapeake Bay Candle brand, will establish its first domestic production and distribution facility in Glen Burnie, MD.

The Maryland facility—which represents the company’s fourth production site, and is the first in the U.S.—will provide a sustainable and environmentally-friendly production base for Chesapeake Bay Candle brand growth, the company said.

Husband-and-wife-team Mei Xu and David Wang started the business in their home in Annapolis, MD in 1994.

“I believe it is time to connect the creativity of our Rockville, MD based design and sales headquarters with a manufacturing facility nearby—despite the uncertainties of the economy and the ever-changing retail landscape”, said Mei Xu, president and co-owner of Chesapeake Bay Candle. “We look forward to building new partnerships with retailers that have a demand for stylish, nature-inspired home fragrances that excite the consumer. The new Maryland facility will enable us to respond quickly to retailer and consumer desires and needs. My personal goal is to be able to provide our brand partners with what they want, when they want it. Today’s consumers are smart shoppers that demand instant gratification. They will not wait if a product is out of stock. Candles are about passion, and passion cannot wait.”

Pacific Trade International and Chesapeake Bay Candle home fragrance products are available through leading retailers including Target, Kohl’s and Pier 1 Imports.

The new facility is expected to open in late 2010.
