Degussa AG, Düsseldorf, Germany, opened a new polyether manu- facturing facility at the company’s Hopewell, VA site. Degussa invested about $30 million on the new plant, which has a production capacity of 14,000 metric tons a year. “Degussa now possesses the full vertical range of manufacturing capabilities for special siloxanes in the NAFTA region and in Europe,” said Professor Hans-Joachim Kollmeier, division head, performance materials. “This will provide sustained strength to the market position of our two business units, oligomers and silicones and care specialties, in North America.” The facility strengthens Degussa’s activities in the fields of polyurethane additives, industrial specialties, coating and ink additives and personal care.
