Dick Frauenheim Dies

Long-time aerosol industry executive John Richard “Dick” Frauenheim died on March 9, 2021. He was 78. A true pioneer in the industry, Frauenheim retired as president/CEO of Diversified CPC International. He graduated in 1964 with a BS in Business Administration from Penn State University and joined joined Diversified CPC as VP-sales shortly after the company was founded, becoming a key member of its original management team.

In 1992, he led a management group which included Bill Auriemma and Chip Heun that purchased the company in partnership with Bank One Venture Corp. from the original entrepreneurs, George Dietrich and Bob Svenson.  Bank One later sold its interest in the company to Sumitomo Corporation of the Americas in 1995.
Frauenheim would go on to lead DCPC in establishing a global presence with joint venture propellant plants built in Germany (Klockner CPC) and in China (Shanghai CCL Custom Manufacturing and Diversified Propellants Co.).

He was also extremely involved in industry trade associations, holding leadership positions in regional aerosol associations and as a long-time executive board member and also served a term as chairman of the aerosol products division of CSMA, the largest aerosol industry trade association in the US, now called HCPA (Household and Commercial Products Association). Frauenheim was very influential in the success of the aerosol industry for many years and was a mentor to many of its current leaders. In 1993, he received the Alderdice Award, the highest award offered by CSMA. He retired from Diversified CPC in 2000. 

Frauenheim, born in Pittsburgh on May 30, 1942, was the beloved husband of Rita (Millay) Frauenheim; loving father of Donna Johnson (David) and Cathi Caimi (Michael), brother of Bill Frauenheim (Alice-deceased), Cathy Hospodor (Bill), Sue Lang-deceased (Mike). He was the beloved grandfather of Eric Johnson, Katrina Waywood, Reid Johnson, and Scott Waywood, and he also had many loving nieces and nephews, including Diversified CPC’s Vice President of Operations, Bill Frauenheim.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
