DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Company LLC has launched an Innovation Award program for companies using its Zemea Propanediol in their cosmetic and personal care ingredients or formulations. Eligible nominees have either commercialized a finished product for retail or launched another ingredient that contains Zemea Propanediol from Jan. 1, 2011 through Dec. 31, 2012. The winning company will receive an engraved plaque and a contribution of $1,500 will be made on its behalf to an approved charity of its choice. Nominations are being accepted between Jan. 3 and Jan. 31, 2013. Nominations will be judged, compared and evaluated by a panel of experienced leaders in the cosmetics and personal care market. This year’s judges include Steve Herman, chair-elect of the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists and adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University; Tom Branna, editor of HAPPI magazine; and Steve Hurff, vice president of marketing and sales, DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. The winning company will be announced on Feb. 25, 2013, the timing to coincide with the Personal Care Products Council annual meeting in Palm Beach, Florida. Zemea is a natural, 100% biobased ingredient made from corn sugar through fermentation and developed for use in the cosmetics and personal care market. It is a high-performance, environmentally sustainable alternative to petroleum-based glycols and glycerin, where the product’s lack of skin irritation, improved moisturization and excellent aesthetic properties are benefits.
