Light, bright and breezy are big for Spring/Summer 2015, as seen at the latest Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week and the recent Pantone report. Here’s a roundup of beauty news straight from the tents. Nars created the look for the Rag & Bone SS ‘15 runway show. According to lead artist Gucci Westman, “This look is effortless, aspirational and chic while still feeling luxurious and cool. The face is feminine and fresh with subtle monochromatic tones complimented by a bitten looking mouth.” The brand’s new All Day Luminous Powder Foundation was used to prime the face; and a Spring 2015 lip color, Vent Salé Lipgloss, made an appearance. OPI joined Charlotte Ronson at Lincoln Center for the designer's Spring/Summer 2015 presentation. Lead nail artist Miss Pop created a nail look showcasing negative space, with alternating cutout half moon shapes. To complement the collection's feminine color palette, which included blues ranging from pastel to navy, soft mint and cream, Miss Pop used That's Hula-rious! to create the look. This never-before-seen pastel mint OPI hue is slated to launch in February 2015 as part of OPI's Spring/Summer 2015 seasonal collection. For the nail look, each model sported one hand with the pinky, middle and pointer fingers featuring a painted nail with a natural half moon, and the ring and thumb fingers featuring a natural nail with a painted half moon. On the other hand, the look was reversed, with the pinky, middle and pointer fingers featuring the natural nail with a painted half moon, while the ring and thumb fingers had the painted nail with a natural half moon. Toes were lacquered in one coat of Bubble Bath; each model's big toe was painted with a daisy falling toward the nail's free edge. To create the daisy, the following shades were used: Put a Coat On It! (petals), Jade is the New Black (stem), and Barefoot in Barcelona layered with Need Sunglasses? (flower center). Both manicure and pedicure looks were prepped with OPI Base Coat and finished with OPI Top Coat. Inspired by the modern day woman, Redken's creative consultant Guido created a polished ponytail for Diesel’s Spring/Summer 2015 show. He achieved this classic ready-to-wear style using Redken’s satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to blow the hair out straight, and then comb it back into a smooth low ponytail with a deep side part. To add a futuristic feeling, he finished the look with a liberal misting of Forceful 23 super strength hairspray to create a lacquer-like effect. “My job as a hairdresser is to update the ponytail to make it more relevant for today’s woman. This ponytail that I created for Diesel is very groomed and classic, but slightly futuristic,” he explained. “The two distinct textures – shiny and matte – and the deep side part make it a very depersonalized, exact look. I used satinwear 02 to blowdry the hair super straight, and then created a deep side part before brushing the hair back into a low ponytail. To create the lacquered effect, I liberally sprayed forecful 23 on the top of the hair, making it feel a bit more minimal and modern.” CND unveiled an eclectic assortment of eye-catching nail designs tonight at Libertine’s Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion Show at Lincoln Center. The clothing and nails represented elements of both punk rock and royalty. Best described as contemporary couture, this first-time fashion collaboration made for a unique and startling artistic clash of texture and color from head to toe. “We are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with Libertine this season,” said CND co-founder and style director Jan Arnold. ”The moment I walked into the design studio, I knew we were all set up for success. Every piece of clothing was an exceptional work of art with a playful and artistic perspective – and our team designed the most spectacular nails to finish off the looks!” The handmade works of art, created by the elite artists of the CND Design Lab Team, were constructed on medium length, almond shaped nails, painted with Vinylux Weekly Polish and tricked out with unconventional materials like seed bead tassels and crystals. Some models sported jewel-encrusted lettering that spelled out “Libertine!” across both hands, while other models showcased a unique look on each fingertip, including a hand-sculpted skull with a moveable jaw and accented with a gold tooth, created entirely from CND Liquid & Powder. Designer Michael Costello presented his Spring/Summer 2015 Collection with hair by lead stylist Linh Nguyen for Chi Hair Care. Costello was featured on Project Runway season 8, finishing in 4th place, and he was a Project Runway All-Star season 1 finalist. Nguyen created a sophisticated shiny/wet look at the front/top with a sleek finish to the back for a more high-end result. According to Nguyen, “The collection is very clean and polished using a lot of textiles. With a lot going on, I wanted the hair to reflect a really sophisticated girl who just popped out of the shower with glistening and shiny hair that is clean and polished.” Backstage at Lela Rose and Milly, Butter London’s global color ambassador Katie Jane Hughes created fashion-forward nail looks that compliment S/S 2015 collections sponsored by Beauty.com. At Lela Rose, Lead Manicurist Katie Jane Hughes was inspired by clean lines in the collection. Butter’s Nail Foundation created a clean, nude base. Nail art studs on the pointer and pinky fingers of one hand and the middle and pinky fingers of the other hand were used for a sleek twist on a nude nail. Meanwhile, at Milly, Hughes took a spin on early 80s Madonna using Butter’s Flawless Finish Basecoat over Yummy Mummy and topping it off with 999 Topcoat to add a pop of shine. Makeup artists at the Lisa Folawiyo New York Spring/Summer 2015 show had models ready to take on the runway by using a collection of Repêchage’s finest skin care products to prep their skin—including a seaweed facial spray, cleaning mousse and rescue pads.
