FDA Cuts Ribbon on Expanded National Forensic Chemistry Center

Cincinnati site provides lab services related to adulteration/contamination and counterfeiting of cosmetics and other FDA-regulated products.

This week, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a major expansion and renovation project at the National Forensic Chemistry Center (FCC) in Cincinnati, OH.

The facility is FDA’s forensic laboratory providing specialized laboratory services in analytical chemistry and molecular/ microbiology related to adulteration/contamination, counterfeiting, and product tampering of FDA regulated commodities including cosmetics, as well as drugs, dietary supplements anr more.

The project, which began in November 2021, was part of a $400 million investment to modernize the Agency’s lab facilities.

FCC includes a network of satellite laboratories throughout the country, currently in Chicago, Miami and New York City.  Laboratories in Los Angeles and Honolulu are scheduled to come online by the end of FY24, according to FDA.
