Allou Healthcare, Inc., Brentwood, NY, said an early morning fire at a Brooklyn, N.Y., warehouse caused more than $80 million in damage to its inventory, but that the losses are covered by insurance. The company, which distributes products ranging from health and beauty aids to prescription pharmaceuticals, said the losses cover the selling price of the products, not just the cost of replacement.

“While the damage was extensive we are pleased to report no human lives were lost,” President and Chief Financial Officer David Shamilzadeh said in the statement.

Allou, which posted revenue of $564 million for the year ended March 31, said the insurance also would cover any interruption of its business as a result of the fire at the public warehouse.

A representative wasn’t immediately available to characterize the degree of any disruption the company might face or to say whether a cause had been determined.
