Harvard University named former marketing exec and inventor Gordon Jones the director of its forthcoming Harvard Innovation Lab, set to open late this year, the university announced this morning.

The Innovation Lab, currently under construction in the former WGBH headquarters at 125 Western Ave., will focus on entrepreneurial activities in Harvard Business School. It is part of a broader push to attract startup-minded students at HBS.

Jones has recently held marketing and sales executive positions at Universal Pest Solutions LP, Procter & Gamble and American Biophysics Corp. From 1996 to 2004, he held product and operations management positions at The Gillette Company. He has been awarded two U.S. patents, according to Harvard’s press release.
