P&G Gillette has revealed plans for a new headquarters and innovation center adjacent to its current manufacturing building in Boston. The company will purchase 232 A Street in South Boston as the future home for those operations. Additionally, blade and razor manufacturing will move from the South Boston site to Andover, MA.

The facility will support commercial operations and advance its research and development efforts, according to Gary Coombe, chief executive officer, grooming executive sponsor, corporate wellbeing, at Procter & Gamble.

The $1 billion investment is said to be Gillette’s largest to date in Boston.

“This move keeps us rooted in Boston, where our journey began and drives our vision for growth here, across the state and around the world. Our new space will give our employees the tools, capabilities, and environment to collaborate and inspire each other every day. And for our community, this decision will unlock a range of new public amenities and benefits, including construction and trade jobs, green space,” Coombe said in a video released on YouTube (see below).

Gillette will work with community leaders and residents to reimagine the 31-acre campus “to help create a vibrant neighborhood for the city” with new gathering spaces and housing, according to Coombe.

Once complete, the project will contribute 1.5 acres of publicly accessible open space along the Fort Point Channel, including new sidewalks, bike lanes, a waterfront park and Harborwalk improvements. The parcel includes monetary allocations for public art and shuttle services, which will enhance community engagement and waterfront access, according to stakeholders.

Plans for Andover Manufacturing Site

In April 2025, Gillette broke ground on a manufacturing facility in Andover, MA.

As part of a phased transition, blade and razor manufacturing will move from South Boston to Andover beginning this year. The expanded Andover location includes a new 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility designed to support blade and razor production as well as packaging operations, shave prep manufacturing and direct-to-consumer fulfillment.

In Andover, “hundreds of experienced employees will bring their deep expertise to a modern, flexible production environment equipped with next-generation technologies,” according to a statement from P&G Gillette.

“Transforming our grooming business for the future required that we think creatively about every aspect of our operations. After a comprehensive search, we are pleased to have found a location that continues our longstanding history in this community, provides the right structure for our Technical Innovation Center, and supports neighborhood development,” Coombe said in a March 10 press statement.

Leveraging Massachusetts Locations

Gillette’s plan to move to a new headquarters and technical innovation center was initially announced in 2023, after the company conducted a comprehensive Massachusetts site assessment to determine how it could best leverage its existing Massachusetts locations to both meet future operational needs and reinvest in the business.

All told, the company’s operational transformation in Massachusetts will translate to approximately $1.5 billion investment in the Commonwealth, according to officials.

Procter & Gamble acquired Gillette in 2005 in a $57 billion deal, as reported by Happi.
