James Kilts, The Gillette Company’s chairman and chief executive officer, has added president to his title after Edward DeGraan, was elected vice chairman.

The additional role of president does not affect Kilts’ day-to-day direction of the company, said Gillette. A spokesman for Gillette said Mr.DeGraan’s new title reflects his focus on research and development, manufacturing and the supply chain and the importance Gillette attaches to those functions.

Mr. Kilts has been chairman since January 2001 and chief executive officer since February 2001.

Mr. DeGraan became president and chief operating officer in July 2000 and was acting chief executive officer from October 2000 to February 2001. The position of chief operating officer is not being filled right now, the spokesman said.
