Ginkgo Biloba, Eucalyptus Pushed to Next CIR Panel Agenda

revealed at most recent meeting.

At the 145th meeting of the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel, held Dec. 4-5, 2017, final safety assessments and other news were unveiled. The meeting agenda includes the consideration of 14 ingredient groups advancing in the review process—including eight final reports, three tentative reports and three draft reports. Also, following up on the panel’s continuing standardization of guidance language documents, the agenda contains three items regarding hair dyes. Here are the findings:

Final Safety Assessments
            Ammonia and Ammonium Hydroxide – 2 ingredients – Split conclusion (safe with qualifications in each) 

            Persulfates – 3 ingredients – Split conclusion / Polysilsesquioxanes – 18 ingredients – Safe as used 

            Triglycerides – 51 ingredients – Safe as used 

            Panthenol, Pantothenic Acid, and Derivatives – 7 ingredients – Safe as used 


Tentative Safety Assessments 

            Malic Acid and Sodium Malate – 2 ingredients – Safe as used 

            Mentha piperita (Peppermint)-Derived Ingredients – 10 ingredients – Split conclusion 

            Alkyl Sultaines – 13 ingredients – Safe as used 

            Zinc Salts – 27 ingredients – Safe with non-irritating caveat 

            Alkane Diols – 10 ingredients – Split conclusion 

            Hamamelis virginiana (Witch Hazel)-Derived Ingredients – 8 ingredient – Safe with non-irritating and non-sensitizing caveats

            Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus)-Derived Ingredients – 6 ingredients
