Haircare Expert Patrick Obukowho Dies

Patrick Obukowho died on Dec. 13, 2024. A haircare formulation expert, Obukowho earned a BS degree in chemistry from Chicago State University. He was with Luster Products in Chicago before joining Croda in 1994 as an application specialist. He later became the research manager / personal care applications for several years while at Croda. He was then promoted to executive program manager – ethnic product development.

Obukowho’s work resulted in several publications and patents. He had over 20 years of experience in the personal care industry and is a recognized industry expert on ethnic haircare and skincare product formulation and raw material evaluation. He was a frequent contributor to Happi. Obukowho was a member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists where he worked alongside like-minded individuals, inspiring the next generation of chemists in his field.

Founded Advantage Research Lab

In September 2005, Obukowho founded Advantage Research Lab, LLC, a consulting firm for the personal care industry. ARL specializes in the art and science of ethnic hair and skin care product development. Obukowho was a frequent speaker at numerous conferences, both domestic and international. He lectures for the Society of Cosmetic Chemist on ethnic product formulation / chemistry. He is also a member of the Ask The Expert with the Society of Cosmetic Chemist.

Obukowho was born and died in his native homeland of Nigeria. Patrick was a dedicated husband, a devoted father of four and grandfather of four. He was an active member of his local chapter of Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Master for four years. He was a highly decorated and revered chief in his native Urhobo community and worked tirelessly to ensure the culture/tradition would not be forgotten.
