HBA To Honor Leyden with Lifetime Award

HBA Health & Beauty America announced that renowned skin care academic Dr. James J. Leyden will receive the “Lifetime achievement award: advancement of beauty through science.” The award will be presented at the third annual Industry Awards dinner on Sept. 28 in New York, on the opening night of the 12th annual HBA, which is set for Sept. 28-30 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

Dr. Leyden, professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, is being recognized for his work on inflammation mechanisms of acne and bacterial taxonomy, and bacterial production of body odors. This research lead to the development, testing and commercialization of Accutane, Bactroban, Nizoral, Cleocin, Benzamycin, Benzaclin, Minocin and the use of bicarbonate to control body odor.

Dr. Leyden currently serves on the executive board of the Dermatology Foundation. He has been a director of the American Academy of Dermatology, past chairman of the board of the Dermatology Foundation, and has served as a consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission.

Organizer CMP Princeton said the award recognizes the role of cosmetic science in new product development. Albert M. Kligman, MD, Ph.D, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine emeritus dermatology professor and first recipient of this award, will present the award to Dr. Leyden.

The Industry Awards dinner will also present the fifth annual Package Design, New Product R&D Technical, Lifetime Achievement in Product Development and the Packaging Executive of the Year awards.
