Honeywell has launched two new Asensa ingredients for the personal care industry – a biopolymer that improves hold in hair-care products and a thickener for high salt and extreme pH emulsions.

The biopolymer, Asensa NFF 11, is derived from corn starch and offers many of the features of synthetic polymers. It has been salon tested in hair-styling gel formulations to show hold and curl-resistance control even in very humid conditions. NFF 11 is easily dispersed to form a water-based latex without the use of solvent.

The thickener, Asensa RC 880, provides stability to emulsions that have high electrolyte levels (up to 5% sodium chloride) or to formulations with high or low pH.RC 880 can also be used as a thickener in certain toners and cleansers.

“These two new products will help solve some of the cosmetics industry’s toughest problems,” said Philip Orawski, global marketing manager for Honeywell’s personal care business. “They are an example of how Honeywell’s line of Asensa ingredients continues to grow to meet our customers’ ever-changing needs.”
