ICSC A/S Vertical Farming Site Achieves EFFCI GMP

Facility produces holy basil and calendula oil and butter.

International Cosmetics Science Centre A/S (ICSC), Denmark, is a highly innovative and research-based company focusing on the development and manufacturing of natural ingredients for cosmetic applications. Committed to the sustainable, natural and innovative agenda, ICSC has achieved European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFFCI) GMP certification for its vertical farming facility in Denmark.

The ingredients grown under highly optimized conditions and with full attention to sustainability secures customers a sustainable and consistent source with full traceability and quality control in every step of the way from the seed to the final ingredient, said the company.

“The standardization and now certifications of our vertical farming platform provide the solid foundation for providing our customers, not only with innovative sustainable ingredients but also ingredients from a source of consistent supply and high quality. We are taking the sustainability and innovation aspects of natural ingredients to the next level in the cosmetic industry,” said Philip Shukla, vice president, ICSC.

The ICSC vertical farming facility uses solar energy.



The ICSC vertical farming facility achieved the ISO 9001:2015 earlier in 2020 and also has Kosher certification.

ICSC offers Cosmosil HB (Holy Basil) and Cosmosil CAL (Calendula) Oil and Butter from vertical farming for sustainable cosmetic formulations. These ingredients are additionally manufactured using a unique internal stabilization technology for longer shelf life of finished products. ICSC says ithey are 100% free from herbicides, pesticides, GMOs, heavy metals or other toxins.

In 2022, ICSC will build a new facility to support the further growth and development of the vertical farming platform for cosmetics ingredients.
