The worst of the economic downturn is definitely over for the cosmetic industry, if the recently concluded In-Cosmetics show is any indication. Preliminary attendance figures are in, and the 20th anniversary show in Paris attracted 7,839 attendees, enough to shatter the old mark, set in 200, by 26%.

The actual size of the show was a recordbreaker too. For the first time ever, the event exceeded 10,000m2, with 575 companies from over 40 countries worldwide signing up to showcase their latest innovations to a captive audience.

Manufacturers, including L’Oréal, Johnson & Johnson, Estée Lauder and Beiersdorf, are just some of the finished product companies that sent representatives to In-Cosmetics.

Over 60% of visitors travelled from overseas to attend. Of these, 71% were from Europe [EU], 9% from Asia, 6% from North America, 6% from non-EU Europe, 4% from the Middle East and Africa and the remaining 4% from Southern or Central America.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the outcome of In-Cosmetics 2010,” said In-Cosmetics Exhibition Director, Lucy Gillam. “There was a great buzz about the show which is testament to the strength and resilience of the industry following last year’s recession. We welcomed the largest number of visitors that the show has ever seen and most importantly they were of the highest possible quality and extremely well targeted.”

The In-Cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award was won by Dr Alain Khaiat, who was recognized for his 40 year’s dedication to the cosmetics industry. Nominees included: Dr. Karl Lintner, Dr. Daniel Maes and Dr. Johann Wiechers, but it was Dr. Khaiat’s lifelong dedication to the cosmetics industry that saw him voted the most popular in the online public poll.

In-Cosmetics 2011 will be held in Milan, March 29-31, 2011. More info: www.in-cosmetics.com
