US Patent 11,517,520 B2 (Vincent Bardey, Isabelle Bonnet, Anabelle Echard, Nicolas Pelletier, Boris Vogelgesang); BASF Beauty Care Solutions France has patented a method of increasing the firmness and/or elasticity of the skin and/or mucous membranes. It entails administering an effective amount of a Nephelium lappaceum extract or a cosmetic composition comprising the Nephelium lappaceum extract to a human subject in need thereof. The Nephelium lappaceum extract is a leaf extract obtained by extracting with water as sole solvent in an amount of 1-20% by weight based on the total weight of the water, at a temperature of 60 to 90° C. for a time of 30 minutes to 12 hours followed by drying. The Nephelium lappaceum extract is present in the cosmetic composition at a concentration of from 1×10−4% to 3% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition. The Nephelium lappaceum extract or the cosmetic composition is topically applied.
