The Antaron/Ganex line of polymers from International Specialty Products has a wide range of uses in personal care formulations. But with the growing emphasis on UV protection in the U.S. and Europe, ISP notes that these oil-soluble, hydrophobic polymers are effective water-resistant agents in sunscreen formulations.

Derived from vinylpyrrolidone and long-chain alpha olefins, these polymers impart wear resistance, enabling formulators to create sunscreens that resist abrasion or rub-off. ISP markets the line under the brand name Antaron in Europe and the rest of the world, and Ganex in the U.S. and Canada.

To further aid sun care formulators, ISP offers UltraThix P-100, a multi-benefit, patented rheology modifier that can suspend inorganic particulates such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Other skin care uses of UltraThix P-100 include emulsion stabilization, enhanced skin feel properties, reduced tack and improved aesthetics of hydroalcoholic sprays.  In hair styling products, Ultra Thix P-100 boosts high humidity curl retention.
