James Gager Takes New Post at Estée Lauder

James Gager has been named senior vice president, group creative director, a newly created position, overseeing all creative activity for M•A•C Cosmetics, La Mer and Jo Malone brands globally.


Gager will continue to report to John Demsey, group president of The Estée Lauder Companies and will begin his new assignment immediately.

James’s vision and widely admired creative collaborations have impacted the entire cosmetic industry and we want to maximize his rare talent across more of our brands.”

Gager’s current position is senior vice president creative director, M•A•C Cosmetics Worldwide where he has been instrumental in growing the M•A•C brand into the number one makeup artist brand in the world. Since 1999, he has conceptualized all creative activity for the M•A•C brand, with highlights including Barbie for M•A•C, Hello Kitty for M•A•C and Lady Gaga for Viva Glam. He conceptualized the M•A•C Beauty Icon Series celebrating mature beauty featuring Liza Minelli, Catherine Deneuve and Raquel Welch, and alsooversaw the creative activity for the Sean John brand.

Before joining M•A•C, he was the creative director for Prescriptives for 20 years where he created ground-breaking campaigns for Virtual Skin and the visionary, trend-setting All Skins campaign that identified the importance of reaching out to diverse consumers.

Gager has received numerous awards, including a Fifi for packaging design.
