Nearly one year after rolling out clean skin, hair and body care line “Twentynine Palms,” Founder Jared Leto is putting an end to the brand.

The high-end, anti-aging skin care line was inspired by the desert. Named for the California city, products were made with “resilient” ingredients like evening primrose and aloe vera to preserve skin’s appearance. It was launched following a chance meeting between the musician and actor and investor Jonathan Keren, founder of Mediterranean wellness brand Maapilim in 2016. Leto terminated that relationship with parent company Maapilim Ltd. following an alleged mismanagement by the brand operator, according to Leto’s rep, Robin Baum.

The actor said he was interested in the idea of self-care in an organic way. The line, which debuted on Oct. 25, 2022, included 11 SKUs from an eye cream, moisturizer, serum and mask. At that time, Kate Forbes, global head of innovation for Aesop, had joined the company. At the time, Leto had told media he planned to branch out into other categories including fragrance, and forge partnerships with High Desert Test Sites, the artist residency near Coachella Valley, as well as limited-edition home and design objects with alternating multidisciplinary creators.

According to Twentynine Palms’ Instagram account, which was just shy of 8,000 followers, its last post was roughly four months ago promoting Moonlight Mesa Hand Cream.

According to Baum, Leto was proud of the creative team behind Twentynine Palms.

Leto, who also fronts the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, released his latest album “It's the End of the World but It's a Beautiful Day,” on Sept. 15.
