A Korean company has been awarded a US patent for its UV protection patch that its maker says answers the “urgent need to develop a method of blocking an ultraviolet ray which does not cause a skin irritation and a whitening phenomenon and has an excellent ultraviolet blocking ability.”

Amolifescience Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea, has been awarded US Patent No. 12,097,272 B2 for its ultraviolet protection patch that is comprised of:

• an ultraviolet protection layer including a support component and an ultraviolet protection agent;

• a first shape-retaining layer that is a fiber web provided on a first surface of the ultraviolet protection layer; and

US Patent No. 12,097,272 B2

• a second shape-retaining layer that is a fiber web provided on a second surface of the ultraviolet protection layer, wherein the second surface is opposite to the first surface.

The first layer and the second layer each independently have a thickness of 2 μm to 35 μm and a basis weight of 3 g/m2 to 30 g/m2.

Since the ultraviolet protection material does not directly contact the skin, irritation and white cast do not occur, according to Amolifescience. The makers contend the patch has excellent elasticity and stiffness without inhibiting movement of the site where it is adhered to or peeling off even by physical stimuli.

The ultraviolet protection layer and the shape-retaining layer have a predetermined basis weight relationship, thereby having excellent transparency, and thus, there is an effect of not reducing visibility of the site to which the patch is adhered to the skin, according to the patent filing.
