Lavin Relinquishes Chairman Title at Alberto-Culver

Alberto-Culver Company’s board of directors has elected Carol Lavin Bernick as chairman of the boardsucceeding Leonard H. Lavin, who stepped down. Mr. Lavin founded the Alberto-Culver Company withhis wife Bernice and will remain as chairman emeritus and a director of the company.

Ms. Bernick is a 30-year veteran of the company. She has held the position of vice chairman since1998, and has been a director since 1984. Mrs. Bernick also previously held the company’s topconsumer products post, president of Alberto-Culver Consumer Products Worldwide, where she andher team grew the unit’s compound annual sales and profits 9% and 22%, respectively, over the pastfive years.

“Our new fiscal year, beginning tomorrow, marks the 50th anniversary year of the Alberto-CulverCompany, and we are proud of what we have built,” commented Mr. Lavin. “The Bernicks’ exceptionalperformance over the last 10 years insures us that the company is in the best possible hands tomaintain our momentum and continue to achieve growth.”

Howard B. Bernick will remain chief executive officer. V. James Marino was named president ofAlberto-Culver Consumer Products Worldwide. Mr. Marino previously served as president of AlbertoPersonal Care Worldwide.
