Add L’Occitane US to the list of retailers filing for bankruptcy as the COVID-19 pandemic keeps consumers online and off physical store floors. The personal care retailer filed for Chapter 11 protection in New Jersey yesterday.

“Like most retailers in the United States, the debtor has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has significantly limited retail operations throughout the country and suppressed consumer willingness to shop in person,” said Yann Tanini, regional managing director, L’Occitane.

But Tanini told the court that even before COVID-19 hit, L'Occitane's sales revenue from its brick-and-mortar boutiques was declining, as its e-commerce revenue jumped.
