US Patent 11,679,285 B2 (Kristin Gilida Steeley, Jaimie Mecca, Patricia Brieva, Anil Shah); L’Oréal, Paris, has patented sunscreen composition that comprises a metastable oil-in-water emulsion comprising aqueous and oil phases. The composition contains a UV filter system comprising at least one mineral UV filter and at least one organic UV filter; an emulsification system comprising: at least one ionic surfactant; at least one surfactant having a high HLB of greater than 9; at least one surfactant having a low HLB of 6 or less; and at least one anionic emulsifier; and a solvent system comprising one or a combination of emollients and silicones. The UV filter system has a weight ratio of mineral UV filter to organic UV filter of about 1:1 to about 1:1.5. T

The surfactant with the high HLB includes PEG-40 stearate and polysorbate 61. The surfactant with the low HLB includes sorbitan tristearate. The emulsification system includes a ratio of PEG-40 stearate and polysorbate 61 to sorbitan tristearate of approximately 2.6.
