The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) will sponsor, “Nanotechnology 101 fo Cosmetics,” a webinar to be held Aug. 30, from 1-2:30pm EDT. The cost is $75.

Nanotechnology is quickly and quietly being used by researchers and product developers to make existing products stronger, lighter, more durable, more resistant to degradation and more economical. There are more than 1,000 consumer product using nano materials, including sunscreens, lipsticks, lotions, antibacterial soaps and other cosmetics and personal care products.

Regulators, legislators and activists around the world increasingly are calling for significant safety testing regimens as a minimum and complete prohibition as an extreme. The U.S. EPA is contemplating issuing testing regimens for nanoscale materials. In the EU, REACH is being applied to nanoscale materials; the European Commission has issued regulations requiring the inclusion of nanomaterials in the labeling of cosmetics.

Nanoscale materials have been safety tested for many decades. There is every reason why companies incorporating nanoscale materials in their products should know the potential safety issues of their products.

This 90-minute session will provide some basic information on this emerging technology and how the cosmetic and personal care industry can use it safely and successfully.
