An estimated 70% of Americans are suffering with gum disease right now, and according to a pair of dental experts in Texas, this fact is largely due to how the toothbrush is held—specifically the position of the arm, wrist and hand, while brushing.

To that end, Dr. Mike Smith, DDS, and dental hygenist Mike Davidson have created the MD Brush, a specially designed toothbrush engineered to put an end to gum disease.

With two US patents, the MD Brush is an ergonomically-designed toothbrush specifically crafted to target the gingival sulcus; the difficult to clean space found between the tooth and the gum. The toothbrush teaches users what truly effective brushing looks and feels like, according to the company.  It guides users into the most effective position to achieve the best results with the help of “Smart Mark” indicators, visual cues that indicate when the brush head is in the correct position.

The MD Brush is currently sold online at the brand's website, www.mdbrush.com, and will also be sold at dental practices.
