New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter Report

Check out the top trends in hair, makeup and nails from the runway.

One of the most glamourous times of the year is happening right now in New York City. New York Fashion Week is showcasing the top styles for Fall and Winter 2019 on the catwalk with the hottest fashion designers and stylists. Here’s what’s going on so far in hair, nails and makeup from leading marketers participating in the shows.

At Mansur Gavriel, Laurent Philippon did the hair for Bumble and Bumble. The Global Fashion Director commented, “The Mansur Gavriel woman gets sharper every season. Designers Floriana and Rachel have found their own aesthetic – but we’re always thinking about who this woman truly is and redefining her. This season, we began with the thought of virgin hair – long and wavy. But when we reached casting, there were so many characters, and trying to transform them into anything else felt weird. She’s not trendy. There’s no real references. There’s still ethereal hair, but there’s a lot of diversity – a great deal of respect to the unique character of a woman.”

Use Bb.Thickening Spray to create a clean center part; the Bb.backstage essential smooths and captures flyaways effortlessly). Brush the hair out into sections, spraying each layer with Does It All for flexible hold. Pull hair into a loose, low pony using a scrunchie. For finer or short hair, refresh hair with Prep Primer, then leave to air dry with Don’t Blow It (Fine). For naturally textured hair, use Bb.Curl Anti-Humidity Gel Oil to define curls, finishing with NEW Bb.Curl Luminious Oil Spray for extra sheen and heat/UV protection.

Inspired by the spirit of the Jonathan Simkhai Fall/Winter 2019 woman, Makeup Artist Grace Lee created an “imperfectly perfect” blurred lip for Maybelline New York in an unapologetically feminine shade of vibrant ruby.

Christian Siriano took a trip to the future for his FW19 show. Playing off the sparkle and shine found in the fantastical collection, Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist, Erin Parsons, framed vivid blue lashes with a delicate veil of crystals.

Ibiza and the 1960s-movement served as the jumping off point for Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection. Inspired by the exotic and sunny locale, makeup artist Grace Lee created a glowy complexion and a softly blurred red lip for Maybelline New York.

Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau capitalized on an updated version of a classic braid at Tory Burch’s FW19 Show.

“At Tory’s show, a normal length braid didn’t feel enough, so adding the hair extensions and making it super long gives it a futuristic, avatar feel to it, but there is still a classic-ness to it. Tory is all about classics with a twist. I’ve shampooed the hair and blew it dry with Satinwear 04, added the extensions, then used the Dry Shampoo Paste which helps me keep the braid in, then finished it with Forceful 23 hairspray,” he said.

At Kate Spade, Julie Kandalec created a “second-skin glitter” manicure for Essie as a subtle nod to nail art. She used the Summit of Style polish with bronze glitter. Meanwhile, at Jeremy Scott, Miss Pop for Essie made four graphic looks for model nails inspired by newsprint with black and white hues.

Pantone selected a deep red as its top trending color for the Fall/Winter season, as reported in Happi. This will be everywhere, from fingertips to lipstick.
