Six months after acquiring ISP, Ashland has emerged as a major player in the global personal care industry. According to company executives, Ashland Specialty Ingredients is now one of the Top 5 companies in the segment and has the resources to be one of the most innovative players. Despite its size, Ashland maintains its agility in the market.

All three of those attributes are evident at Ashland’s booth (K30), where the company is introducing several new actives for skin care and hair care applications. Peptide Q10 boosts endogenous synthesis of coenzyme Q10, the antioxidant that is recognized as an effective anti-aging ingredient.

Telosense is a complex of hydrolyzed yeast and soya proteins that help preserve telomers, which cap and protect cell chromosomes. With age, telomeres shorten with each cell division. But Telosense boosts production of Telomeric Repeat Factor 2 proteins to protect telomeres.

For hair care applications, Ashland has introduced three new biofunctional materials to its BiotHAIRapy line. Procataline biofunctional, a pea extract, boosts catalase expression, an antioxidant enzyme that may help preserve the structure of hair following UV and environmental exposure. Proctaline has also been shown in vitro to decrease caspase 3 expression, a direct cause of hair-cell death.

Chromafend biofunctional boosts essential protein expressions for protecting natural hair color. The principal proteins targeted are tyrosinase and TRP1 expressions to assist in the production of melanin.

Finally, Follisync biofunctional, derived from vicia faba seed extract, may enhance the expression of Clock proteins to help regulate hair in the anagen phase.
