Novozymes has introduced Xpect, a new enzyme that is said to be extremely effective on a wide range of pectin-based stains, including fresh fruit such as tomatoes, tangerine, banana and berries, as well as pectin-based products such as tomato sauces, jams, jellies, juices and yogurts. Like other enzyme-based systems, Xpect is effective at low-wash temperatures, which makes it ideal for products with enhanced sustainability profiles, according to the company. According to tests conducted by Novozymes, on a variety of fresh fruit and pectin-containing food stains, a detergent containining Xpect washes significantly cleaner than a commercial European detergent that does not contain a pectin-degrading enzyme. Moreover, in color powder detergents, XPect shows a good cleaning effect on a variety of fruit- and pectin-based stains.
