The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) appointed a new Board of Directors for the 2013/2014 term, which began Sept. 1, 2013. Scott Buchanan, owner of the Scott J Salons & Spas, will lead the PBA Board of Directors as chair; while Reuben Carranza, North American Leader/CEO of Wella, The Salon Professional Division of Proctor & Gamble, serves as vice chair. Buchanan’s appointment marks the second time a salon owner has been elected as Chairman of PBA’s Board. Also new to the Board are Kevin Barrett (Fromm International) and Cynthia Heisser (Ultimate Beauty Companies). The new appointments join current Board members Mark Goodman (The Hair-Designers), Beth Hickey (Spa Specialties Representatives), Marilyn Ihloff (Ihloff Salon and Day Spa), Harlan Kirschner (Kirschner Group), Edwin Neill III (Neill Corp), Graciela Santiler Nowik (Hair Base Salon & Spa), Renee Shakour (Interiors by RG Shakour) and Oliver Steinnagel (Oliver’s Hair Salon). PBA would like to thank its outgoing Chairman Max Wexler (Beauty Craft) and Board member Brian Graham (GF Management), as well as the industry volunteers leaving its Advisory Councils (formerly Leadership Councils). Leaving the Beauty Professional/NCA Council are Marlene Bridge (Educator), James Jordan (Matthew Ray Salon) and Georg Schmieder (Louis Dugal Hair and Color Salon). Remaining on the Council are Marcia Bird (Raritan Valley Community College), Mark Goodman (The Hair Designers), Beth Hickey (Spa Specialties Representatives), Sandra Holland (Head Liners Salon & Spa), Grace Santiler Nowik (Hair Base Salon & Spa), and Peggy Sue Schmoldt (Academy of Cosmetology Arts, LLC). Santiler Nowik will retain her role as council president. Remaining on the Council are Paul Gauvin (WS Beauty Supply), Cynthia Heisser (Ultimate Beauty Companies), Edwin Neill III (Neill Corp), Brandon Ranney (Creative Salon Concepts), Renee Shakour (Interiors by RG Shakour), and Karl Sweis (Sweis, Inc.). Leaving the Manufacturer Council are Brian Graham (GF Management) and Mark Spilo (Spilo Worldwide).
