Personal Care Ingredients To Grow 2.2% Through 2014

New Kline & Company report details marketplace demand.

Having posted 3% growth since 2005, the personal care ingredients market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 2.2% through 2014, according new study from Kline & Company.


The total market for personal care ingredients in the U.S. is estimated at 355 million lbs in 2009. It is the second largest market for personal careingredients behind Europe, according to the report, “Global Personal Care Ingredients 2010: Market Analysis and Opportunities.”

Conditioning polymers are the leading product category followed by surfactants constituting a market share of about 32% and 23%, respectively, by volume. Alkyl polyglucosides (APG) surfactants exceeded the growth of traditional surfactants by more than 2% in 2009.

Natural ingredients benefited from a strong demand for natural products, capturing a small but increasing growth in their sector, according to Kline. “Although there is still perceived issue with performance of natural ingredients prohibiting their usage in many formulations,” said Anna Ibbotson, industry manager, chemicals and material practice at Kline. “The opportunities for growth surpass those more traditional ingredients, creating a forum for innovation.”

Hair fixative polymers and conditioning polymers are the most consolidated categories with the top three players constituting for more than 75% of the overall market.
