Solazyme, Inc. a renewable oil and bioproducts company and creator of Algenist skin care, has announced that Dr. Harrison Dillon, the company’s co-founder and president, has decided to step down from his full-time position and shift to a long-term consulting role focused on further developing the breadth of the technology platform and advising on intellectual property strategy. “Harrison’s drive and integrity as well as his scientific creativity and legal skills were key in the formation and development of Solazyme. We are grateful to him for his leadership over the past 10 years, and I am personally grateful to Harrison for his friendship since our earliest days in college. Harrison will continue on this journey with Solazyme as an advisor, consultant, shareholder and friend as we commercialize this technology platform globally,” said Jonathan Wolfson, CEO of Solazyme. As part of his transition, Dillon has also stepped down from the company’s board of directors. In connection with the changes, the San Francisco-based company announced the election of James R. Craigie, CEO of Church & Dwight, to its board of directors. Solazyme's other board members include Ian Clark, CEO of Genentech; Ann Mather former CFO of Pixar and current board member of Google, MGM Holdings Inc., and Netflix; Peter Kovacs, former president and CEO of NutraSweet Kelco; Michael Arbige, EVP technology of DuPont Genencor Science; and chairman Jerry Fiddler, former CEO and founder of Wind River Systems; and Wolfson. “We welcome a new era in this next phase for our company with the election of Jim Craigie who adds additional strategic expertise to our Board,” said Wolfson. “In particular, Jim’s deep consumer products and brand building experience adds an important perspective to our Board, as Solazyme’s tailored oils are commercialized broadly into numerous consumer markets.” Craigie currently serves on the boards of Church & Dwight; Meredith Corporation, a media and marketing company; and the Gettysburg Foundation, a non-profit foundation involved with restoring the Gettysburg battlefields.
