Hard to believe it, but there are some cosmetics companies that the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) do like.

New Yorkbased e.l.f. has won the Best Cruelty-Free Cosmetics category in PETA’s Sixth Annual Proggy Awards. e.l.f. (which stands for “eyes, lips, face”) will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on PETA’s website, www.PETA.org. PETA’s Proggy Awards (“Proggy” is for “progress”) recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture.

“Because of e.l.f.’s super-low prices and wide availability, every woman can fill her purse with great cosmetics that never harmed a hair on a bunny’s back,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “By being cruelty-free, e.l.f. is proving that beauty doesn’t need to have an ugly side.”

This year, Proggy awards have gone to producers and marketers of vegan foods, shoes, and cruelty-free personal-care products; an animal-friendly production studio; and a member of Congress.
