Petition Targets Birchbox

A Care2 petition is calling for a boycott of Birchbox until it agrees to contract only with companies that are cruelty-free.  

“I am a diehard animal lover and started reading labels to ensure products were animal cruelty-free a few years ago,” Jess Barnett, author of the petition, told Care2. “When I signed up with Birchbox, I wasn’t aware that they contracted with companies that still test on animals.”

Barnett called Birchbox a “fantastic innovation” but said that “many of the companies [it partners] with aren’t so innovative, still using outdated and unnecessary animal testing on their products.”

Barnett, who said she wasn’t satisfied with the response she received from the company, plans on delivering her petition to Birchbox headquarters in New York City. 

As this issue headed to press, the petition had more than 126,000 signatures.
