P&G Announces Executive Changes

The Procter & Gamble Company announced today that Michael Clasper, 48, president-global home care, will retire from the company

on July 1, 2001 after more than 23 years of service. The company also said that Herbert Schmitz, president-Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, will retire on September 30, 2001 after more than 37 years of service.

Mr. A. G. Lafley, P&G’s president and chief executive, said, “Herbert Schmitz and Mike Clasper have made great contributions to P&G’s business and organization. Herbert has led P&G’s business in Central & Eastern Europe from the start, and has built one of P&G’s most successful businesses. Mike has laid a strong foundation for our home care business, built on deep consumer insight and branding. They both leave behind them sound businesses with outstanding growth potential.”

In anticipation of these retirements the following organization changes will be effective July 1, 2001:

* Jorge S. Mesquita, 39, currently vice president-North America fabric care, has been named president-global home care.

* Dimitri Panayotopoulos, 49, currently president-Greater China, has been elected president-Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa and

* Laurent L. Philippe, 49, currently vice president-Eastern Europe, has been elected president-Greater China.
