Procter & Gamble is teaming with the Ohio Supercomputer Center to work on “modeling and simulation projects” designed to foster university research while speeding product innovations.

The agreement is part of a pact P&G reached with state officials last fall to create a network designed to connect Ohio manufacturers with research that can help them expand their businesses.

Cincinnati-based P&G said it uses supercomputers for modeling and simulation while researching and developing products and product improvements. Under the two-year deal, the Supercomputing Center, housed at Ohio State University, will provide P&G with access to its systems and collaborate on projects. The center’s flagship features 9,500 cores, 24 terabytes of memory and a peak computational capability of 75 teraflops.

The organizations said the agreement simplifies the legal process needed for universities and private businesses to collaborate on research projects that could lead to commercialization of university research.
